How Does My Car Know When I Need An Oil Change?

How Does My Car Know When I Need An Oil Change?

Your Car has an Oil Change Monitor! Many moons ago the industry standard recommendation was to Change Your Oil every 3,000 miles. That rule of thumb kept us running for decades. Then, as the industry and technology grew, so did that of our Vehicles. Synthetic Blend Oil and Fully Synthetic Oil changed those recommendations. Then came the invention of the Oil Life Monitor. This made it easier for drivers to remember their Vehicle’s Oil Change Maintenance Intervals. To some of us, the invention of the Oil Life Monitor became life changing!

The first Oil Life Monitors simply tracked your Car’s Mileage. At a pre-set factory mileage setting your Car’s Maintenance Reminder light would come on. That was your reminder that you’d hit the mileage recommended by the factory to Change The Engine Oil And Filter.

Now the Oil Change Monitors are much more sophisticated. They don’t monitor the physical or chemical properties of the Engine Oil. They monitor several conditions that are known to Reduce Oil Life. Which is then entered into an algorithm. Your Vehicle’s computer then accumulates data, while predicting driving habits, operating conditions, and other factors. The Oil Life Monitor takes that information and turns it into your customized Oil Change Reminder!
